Peroneal tendonitis is inflammation in one or both of the tendons that connect your lower leg to your foot. It’s usually due to overusing the tendons, but it can also be the result of a sudden injury such as an ankle sprain. Peroneal tendonitis can be painful and make it hard to walk. If the condition is left untreated, it can lead to long-term disability.

Peroneal tendonitis is a common injury in runners, dancers, and other athletes who put a lot of stress on their lower limbs. The condition is also seen in people who wear high heels or ill-fitting shoes. It is more common in women than in men.
