Outriders: What Does the Vulnerable Status Effect Do? (2024)

Certain weapons and abilities in Outriders cause the Vulnerable status effect, but the game doesn't explain what this means exactly.

InOutriders, players can get through most of the challenges with brute force alone. If they find themselves struggling to do so, it's always an option to simply turn the World Tier down a little bit in order to get through a tough part. That said, players wanting to remain on the highest World Tier available consistently throughout their playthrough will benefit from an understanding of some of the game's deeper mechanics, and this includes status effects. One particularly useful status effect that is really easy to overlook is the Vulnerable effect, but it is actually one of the more useful ones.

Players can apply status effects on enemies inOutridersin many ways. Typically, a weapon might have a modification that causes its bullets to apply the effect, or some class abilities cause this to happen as well. Finally, certain armor mods can imbue a class ability with an effect that it doesn't normally have, so there are lots of ways to get these useful traits.

When an enemy is affected by the Vulnerable status effect, they take 15% more damage for the duration of the effect. Typically, Vulnerable effects last for ten seconds, but they can be reapplied after that duration is over. This works especially well on weapons with a high rate of fire and lower damage, as the first shot can apply the debuff and cause the rest to do more damage, killing enemies and bosses much faster. Before the recent balance patch forOutriders, the Vulnerable status effect increased damage by 25%.

Any character can get the Vulnerable status effect on a weapon with the Vulnerability Bullets weapon mod. This comes in three rarities, standard, Improved, and Ultimate. All three versions of the mod apply the same effect, but the cooldown between each application is shorter for the better versions. The Devastator can apply Vulnerable on enemies with the Reflect Bullets and Endless Mass class abilities, but only with the Hollow Point or Mosh Pit armor mods respectively. Likewise, the Trickster's Hunt the Prey ability inflicts Vulnerable with the Radiation Jump armor mod. The Pyromancer can inflict the status with the Ash Breaker class skill tree node, and the Technomancer can do this with the Tech Shaman class skill tree node.

The player can also be affected by Vulnerable, so it's important to watch out for this. Just like enemies, while the status effect is active, the player will take 15% more damage from all sources. This can cause small threats to become major ones, and bosses will be able to burn through the player's HP faster than they can react.

Outridersis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
