If using a LOCKED phone, insert the SIM card BEFORE using Smart Switch. If you do not, you could risk losing all your data from a factory reset (1st screenshot).
If using an UNLOCKED phone, first choose to transfer from an old device, select your service provider (2nd screenshot), and confirm your selection before inserting the SIM card.
In short, insert the SIM before restoring.
