As a kid, I did everything that I could to be just like Claudia from The Baby-Sitters Club…who remembers her?! She was the girl that ALWAYS had loads of candy hidden around her room, which she brought out when her friends came over. I thought that was soooo cool, so I did exactly that, and candy simply became a way of life.

Fast forward to being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at the age of 12, and suddenly going from a “normal” kid, to being admitted to the hospital and being taken off of food. For over 2 weeks, I was only allowed to consume clear liquids – and being a kid – that meant ALL the candy that I wanted. I basically lived off of sugar.

Back then, I also believed that the food that I ate only controlled my weight, and being that I was always skinny, I figured I could just eat whatever I wanted.

Years later, as an adult, this way of life caught up with me. By that point I’d had my entire large intestine removed and was on yet another round of antibiotics for yet another severe sinus infection. I was craving sugar all. the. time. It was then that my acupuncturist suggested that I check out the 21-Day Sugar Detox, created by Diane Sanfilippo. A detox? From sugar? That sounded terrible. I loved sugar!

Despite my love for sugar, I decided to just go for it. After all, it’s 21 days…and as I’ve learned, the time will pass either way. By the time the 21 days were up I felt like a brand new person and I no longer had ANY cravings for sugar! I didn’t even realize that was possible! My energy also increased, I was sleeping better and I actually felt full after eating a meal. These were all things that were simply non-existent before I did the 21-Day Sugar Detox, and while I still hadn’t discovered paleo yet, this was my very first introduction to realizing that food had the power to make me feel great, or make me feel terrible.

If you’re struggling with sugar cravings, low energy, trouble sleeping, or anything else that doesn’t feel right for your body, I truly can’t recommend the 21-Day Sugar Detox enough!

You can now download the 21-Day Sugar Detox rules for free, and I HIGHLY recommend picking up the book and cookbook as well, especially the brand new Daily Guide, which released today and will majorly help you to get through the detox with ease!
